  • DexaFit NJ is a health and wellness center specializing in body composition analysis, fitness testing, and metabolic assessments to help individuals optimize their health and fitness goals.

  • We offer DEXA scans for body composition analysis, VO2 max testing, Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) testing, 3D Body Scans, Red Light Therapy, and Nutrition Counseling.

  • DEXA stands for Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry, using low dose x-ray to assess your bone density and well as your body composition. It is the most accurate form of body composition testing, only second to an autopsy.

  • A DEXA body composition assessment report provides you with your total body weight, body fat percentage, fat mass, lean muscle mass, visceral fat and bone mineral content for the whole body, as well as waist and hip region, arms legs and trunk.

  • DEXA Scans are 99% accurate in assessing body composition and are considered the gold standard in assessing body fat percent.

  • A DEXA scan provides valuable information about your body composition, which can help you set realistic fitness and nutrition goals, monitor changes in muscle and fat mass, and assess your risk for osteoporosis. A DEXA scan will also tell you your visceral fat levels, the bad fat that’s in and around your organs. Knowing this can help you reduce your risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, depression, anxiety, and more.

  • About the same as you eating a few bananas. The DEXA uses an extremely low dose of radiation and is considered safe for everyone.

  • The only contraindications are pregnancy and weighing over 350lbs.

  • Stop taking calcium supplements 24 hours before your test

    No exercise and food 2 hours prior to your test

    Wear comfortable clothing without any metal

    You will be asked to empty your pockets and remove any significant amount of metal (watch, belt, glasses, jewelry, etc.)

  • It will take between 6 and 11 minutes depending on your body size.

  • As of now, insurance does not cover the DEXA Body Composition scan. It, along with all of our other services, are currently HSA/FSA eligible expenses.

  • Every 3-6 months.

    If everything is all good, treat us like the dentist and come back every 6 months. If things need more work or you’re a higher level athlete looking to monitor changes, every 3 months.

  • VO2 max testing measures the maximum amount of oxygen your body can utilize during intense exercise, providing valuable information about your cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance. We will also give you your heart rate zones, heart rate recovery, and Calories burned per hour of exercise within each HR Zone.

  • Everyone should at least once a year. A VO2 max test can help you determine your fitness level, set appropriate training intensities, and track improvements in aerobic capacity over time.

  • Generally, everyone will be on the treadmill for around 6 minutes, more or less depending on fitness level.

    We do not currently have a bike.

  • RMR testing measures the number of calories your body burns at rest, providing insights into your basal metabolic rate and helping to tailor personalized nutrition and weight management plans.

  • You must FAST from food for a minimum of five hours (3 for VO2 Max) before your appointment. Make sure to drink plenty of water

    Limit your activity beforehand (no exercise for at least 12 hours prior)

    Refrain from taking any caffeine or stimulants/dietary supplements/pre-workouts the day of your test which may increase metabolism and avoid alcohol within 12 hours of it

    Wear comfortable clothing. If you're scheduled for a VO2max test, you will need workout shoes and clothes

    No smoking on the day or at least 6 hours prior to the test

    Workout, casual, or even business clothes are all acceptable, as you will just be relaxing in a chair

  • Appointments can be cancelled for a full refund or rescheduled up to 24 hours before the appointment time.

    Rescheduled appointments within 24 hours will incur a $50 fee. You must call to reschedule with payment due upon arrival.

    Cancelled appointments within the 24 hour period will not receive a refund. Cancelled appointments that were rescheduled within 24 hours will also be ineligible for refund.
